    Looking ahead

Wanted to sneak in one more December blog entry, with one last thank you to everyone who has supported and cheered us on the past year!

2010 looks like it may be a year of change (good change, but still change!) for our family, but we know that now we are in a much better position to be able to handle what may come our way than we were a year ago.

We also have our request in to the budget experts at First Tech to get us set up with a new budget for the coming year. As I said before, we look forward to continuing on with our budgeting for a long time to come.

    shopping December 26

Shopping the day after Christmas? I may be too weary, but I know some folks who love it!

I thought that the insight presented in this article was interesting. If you shop wisely, you can save yourself some money on things you use all year by shopping on December 26.

Ahhh.. The Lap of Luxury, and the Repercussions...

Well at least the potential repercussions... On the upside, business travel for my company isn't too bad, they put us up in nice hotels, give us a generous food allowance and pay for everything. On the downside, we have to submit everything, track everything, and make logical sense out of 2 weeks worth of receipts that somehow need to make it home with you. The really downside is that if you are not organized, and lose something, it comes out of your own pocket. Thats where organization comes in handy.

    "taking care" of Murphy

Murphy's law..."if anything can go wrong, it will". That sets the stage for my story.

My dear husband has been traveling on business for the last two weeks, which we have found to be a bit of a budget challenge to begin with. Plus, it's December...that speaks for itself! Holidays, extra child care costs, some Christmas shopping, extra gas...the list goes on. Needless to say, we tried to be as prepared as possible heading into December.

    thanks for sharing

Sharing lunches with a friend at work: Stellar budget idea! Fun too...especially when lunch is leftovers, and your friend's husband is an amazing cook! Kim, thank you for sharing not only lunches with me, but also for your listening ear, through literally every day of the past year. Also, for sharing your own budget goals and the ups and downs that come along with that! Yep, we'll both drive "paid for" cars for some time to come if it means that we can build tour savings up to a comfortable level.

    Giving

In light of the holiday season as well as recent tragedies in the Seattle area, I feel like I need to re-iterate one of the core reasons that our family embarked on this financial "journey" this year. Of course, being financially stable and comfortable is the life-long goal. However, the sheer "stockpiling of money" is not the motivator. The bottom line is that we want to be in a comfortable situation ourselves, so we can help others when and where we feel led, without feeling limited by our obligations to credit card companies.
