    A Springfield elementary school needs our help!

    A local elementary school library has been ruined due to a frozen pipe bursting and flooding their library.  Page Elementary School was set to compete in the Oregon Battle of the Books next month where children are put in teams of 4, read 16 books and then compete in an all-out knock-down drag-out fight of knowledge against other schools in the state.  Last year they placed first but with their entire library waterlogged and almost all the books ruined, they may not be able to compete at all this year!  In addition to that, the struggling school is left with hardly any books for the rest of

    Do the holidays have to mean bankruptcy?

    This time of year usually means shopping, stress and overdrafts!  Everybody is out buying somebody something somewhere.  Is it possible to make it through December without going into the red?  I think so!  There is no secret trick to it, no hidden sales...no special free-shipping days...just one simple concept: honesty.  "Honesty?" you say?  Yes!  Being honest with yourself, your budget and your family.  Danny and I have spent many Christmases overspending in an effort to get everybody SOMETHING.  We didn't want to leave anybody out and to be frank, there is a bit of ego involved in spendin

    Makin' it easy

    In my last post I wrote about giving back this holiday season.  I wanted to let everybody in the Eugene area know about a super easy, absolutely painless way to donate!  This Saturday is the annual Letter Carriers Food Drive in Eugene to benefit FOOD For Lane County.  If you can find 3 or more non-perishable foods in your pantry, put them in or around your mailbox this Saturday.  Your letter carrier will pick it up and all items will go to FOOD For Lane County.  Sounds easy, right?  That's because it is!  Not only is it the simplest way to give back to your community (I mean really...all yo
